Update on Shropdoc Presteigne Medical Centre

Since July 2023 Shropdoc has held the contract to deliver services at Presteigne Medical Practice, and we have been working on a number of positive changes to support patient care. We have reviewed and extended the number of appointments available to patients and successfully recruited an additional Nurse Practitioner to work at the Practice. Having both of our Nurse Practitioners on-site enables us to provide additional face-to-face appointments.

The surgery has also been working in collaboration with Shropdoc colleagues to review and align clinical governance processes to provide further assurance of the care that we provide. We will introduce the role of Clinical Lead in the surgery in the coming months, a post that will be instrumental in supporting further developments at the Practice in the years to come. Other developments have been towards our “green” agenda, including replacing our lighting with more efficient LED lights.

There will be some changes to our GP workforce in the coming months as we sadly say goodbye and happy retirement to Dr Duncan Johnson, who leaves the Practice at the end of March 2024 after 20 years.  Dr Verity Oloro is also leaving her position as GP, as she has successfully secured a new position.  We want to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you and congratulations to both GPs – they will be hugely missed.

We are, however, very pleased to confirm that Dr Linda Duffin, who has supported the practice as a locum for several years, will become a substantive member of our team, enabling continuity of care for our patients.  We have secured GP interviews for April to strengthen our GP workforce and look forward to welcoming a new GP to Practice in the coming months.  In the meantime, to ensure there is capacity to meet patient demand, we have secured interim GP support to provide patient care.
